Open the job description. Copy it into a word cloud tool (wordclouds.com is free). The largest words are the most important keywords. Make sure every one of them appears naturally in your CV at least once. Do this for every application.

A high-performing CV in 2025 follows a specific structure. Here is the optimal order and what to include in each section.
1. Professional Summary (4–5 lines at the top)
This is the most important part of your CV. Recruiters spend an average of 6.25 seconds scanning a CV before deciding to read further or discard. Your summary must make them stay.

2. Work Experience — Use the STAR Format
For every role, structure your bullet points around Situation, Task, Action, Result. Always quantify your impact.

3. Skills Section
List your technical skills clearly. Group them by category. Do not include soft skills like "teamwork" or "communication" — these are expected and add no value.

4. Education
Keep this brief unless you are a recent graduate. Include: degree name, institution, graduation year, and GPA only if above 3.5. Do not include high school if you have a degree.

💼 Section 4 — LinkedIn Profile Optimisation
Recruiters in the UAE and UK report that they check LinkedIn before shortlisting 90% of candidates. Your LinkedIn profile must reinforce and extend your CV — not just copy it.

For most candidates: 1 page if under 5 years experience, 2 pages if 5–15 years, and never more than 2 pages regardless of experience. Research by ResumeGo found that two-page CVs get 2.9× more callbacks than one-page CVs for experienced candidates. Recruiters do read page 2 — but only if page 1 earned their attention. Quality over quantity always.
This depends on the country. In the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and most of Europe and Asia, photos are standard and expected. In the USA, UK, Canada and Australia, photos are strongly discouraged to prevent bias claims — leave them off entirely. When in doubt, check job boards in your target country to see what local CVs include.
Use Calibri, Georgia, Garamond, or Arial. Size 10.5–12pt for body text, 14–16pt for your name. These are universally ATS-readable. Avoid Times New Roman (outdated), Comic Sans (unprofessional), and any decorative fonts. Stick to black text on white background — coloured text reduces readability and can confuse ATS parsers.
No. Do not list references on your CV and do not write "References available upon request" — this wastes valuable space and is assumed by all employers. Have a separate reference sheet ready with 2–3 professional contacts (name, job title, company, email, phone), and only provide it when specifically asked, typically after the interview stage.
Be brief, honest, and forward-focused. In the interview: "I took time off to [reason — care for family / health recovery / personal project]. During that period, I [kept skills current by / completed a course in / freelanced as]. I'm now fully ready and excited to return to [field]." On your CV, list the gap period and describe it as "Career Break — [brief reason]" if it lasted more than 6 months.
